Three Questions For The Towing Company

Unfortunately, many motorists are seldom prepared when their vehicles break down mid-way through a journey. This article discusses three quick questions that a motorist can use to determine the best towing company at that crucial hour.

What Towing Mechanism Will The Company Use?

"Four down" towing is when a vehicle is removed from the point of break-down by attaching it on the rear of a tow truck and pulling it to the garage. The mechanism is referred to as "four down" because the four wheels of the vehicle maintain contact with the ground during the move.

"Two down" mechanism is whereby the towed vehicle will have one set of wheels elevated above the ground level while the other maintains contact with the road surface. This mechanism uses a tow dolly for the elevation of one set of wheels.

Flatbed towing is whereby the vehicle is loaded onto the trailer of a flatbed tow truck, such that none of its wheels is in contact with the road surface level during the tow.

The 'four down' and 'two down' mechanism are preferred for vehicles that break down as a result of mechanical failure, which have suffered minimal physical damage. Flatbed trucks are preferred for accident-related towing services. Carrying a wrecked vehicle on a flatbed truck (as opposed to pulling it to the garage) prevents further damage to its various parts.

What Trailer Accessories Does The Service Provider Use?

This question can help to determine how serious a towing company is about their work. The use of trailer accessories improves functionality of a towing service trailer. There's no excuse for not investing in trailer accessories by a towing service company.

Examples of towing trailer accessories include reflective warning triangles, trailer hitching and hook-up aids, LED trailer lights for enhanced visibility, and trailer connection aids among several others.

What Next After The Towing Exercise?

In a large number of cases, motorists are finding alternative ways of getting to their intended destination (or even getting back home) once their vehicle has been towed. For this reason, it would be a good idea to find out whether a towing service provider will avail a rescue car which the client can use immediately after the towing exercise and shortly after this period.

It could also be a good idea to ask about non-towing related services offered from the towing company. This information will help to establish the reputability of different towing service providers. Reputable towing companies will often offer trailer services such as roadside gas delivery and roadside puncture service among other roadside assistance services.

About Me
Getting these cars off my verge

Ever since the shops opened across the way, my verge keeps getting filled up with other people's cars. I have had enough, so I put up a sign letting them know that if they park there I will tow them. It's amazing how many people ignore the sign and park there anyway. When they ignore it, I put in a call to the towing service and get them towed. The towing service charges them to get the car back from their yard, so we are all much happier — apart from the silly driver who ignored my sign! Learn more about towing on my blog.
